The Americas – Argentina: ANMAT bans the sale of food called salt based on crickets

The National Administration of Medicines, Food and Medical Technology (ANMAT in Spanish), through Provision 2675/2022, banned the sale of a condiment used in Mexican cuisine throughout the country. It is a salt made from crickets of the brand Chapulines (crickets) whose label contains the following information: “Net weight 60 g, expiration 10 JUN 2022, Elaborated by Chapulines, City of Buenos Aires – CP 1425, Argentine Industry”.
The decision was taken after verifying that the product lacked sanitary registrations, resulting in a falsely labeled product and, consequently, illegal.
In Argentina, insects are not considered by the Argentine Food Code. But a group of researchers from Conicet and the Food Safety Network published last year a report on the nutritional profile of crickets for human consumption, which once approved by the National Food Institute (INAL in Spanish) would open the way for the development of the edible insects sector in the country.

The National Administration of Medicines, Food and Medical Technology (ANMAT) banned the use, distribution and commercialization throughout the country of a series of supplements promoted for “focus, concentration and memory” in capsules, powders and drops.
Provision 2105/2022 published this Tuesday in the Official Gazette indicates that these are the products “Newmind – Noopept – GVS -111 powder; Newmind – F-Phenibut powder; PURENOOTROPICS Noopept capsules; PURENOOTROPICS Noopept powder; NOOPEPT sublingual, PURE NOOTROPICS; B-12 sublingual PURENOOTROPICS; and PURENOOTROPICS BACOGNIZE Bacopa Monnier”.

The Americas – Argentina: ANMAT sanctions mayonnaise brand for misleading information on labeling

Provision 492/2022 establishes the prohibition of “the elaboration, fractionation and commercialization throughout the national territory of the falsified product whose label reads: Mayonnaise reduced in lipid value gluten-free without tacc, brand: NATURA, fantasy name: mayonnaise with lemon juice, RNE: 19000208-9, RNPA: 19010390, VEN: 03/28/22 05 L: 07/01/21 2138 1V4″. The reason is that it lacks records and is “falsely labeled by using records of an establishment and product belonging to the firm NIZA S.A, turning out to be an illegal product.”

Argentina: ANMAT actualiza las tarifas para trámites de alimentos incluyendo los suplementos dietarios

ARTÍCULO 1°.- Modifícanse los montos de los aranceles que devengarán las tramitaciones que se realicen ante la Administración Nacional de Medicamentos, Alimentos y Tecnología Médica —Instituto Nacional de Alimentos – correspondientes a productos alimenticios, suplementos dietarios, alimentos para propósitos médicos específicos, establecimientos, envases, importación / exportación, análisis de laboratorio, autenticaciones y red federal de laboratorios, conforme el detalle que, como Anexo IF-2021-02947451-APN-DPYF#ANMAT forma parte integrante de la presente disposición (Fuente).
