The Americas – Mexico: COFEPRIS detains more than 10.000 domestic and imported products for non-compliance with NOM-051 standard

In a new joint operation, the Federal Commission for the Protection against Health Risks (COFEPRIS in Spanish) and the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (PROFECO in Spanish) conducted verification visits to supermarkets in Mexico City, where 10,075 domestic and imported products were immobilized as a precautionary measure for non-compliance with NOM-051 and its modification for prepackaged food and non-alcoholic beverages.

The Americas – Argentina: Front-end labeling law to be enforced between August and September

The Secretary of Access to Health, Sandra Tirado, confirmed this Wednesday that the front labeling law will start to be applied “between August and September” and explained that the products will have “a black seal, octagonal in shape, with white letters, very clear and visible”.

The official assured that the articles that will appear on the shelves with the black label will be those of large industries because Law 27.642 on Promotion of Healthy Food was regulated in March and this group has up to 6 months to adapt while the small and medium industry has 1 year for its adaptation.

Its objective is to clarify doubts about the Resolution of the Collegiate Council (RDC) 481/2021 and the Normative Instruction (IN) 87/2021, which deal with the subject.
