Argentina – Including new food additives for dietary supplements

By Joint Resolution 27/2023 the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries and the Secretariat of Quality in Health have published the inclusion in the Food Code:

175. Polyethylene glycol (PEG) (INS 1521): Polyethylene glycol, for dietary supplements, except those intended for infants and young children; for solid dietary supplements only, for use in tablets, capsules or tablets, except chewable food supplements; as a coating film or glaze, with a limit of 7g/100g (7%).

176. Polyvinylalcohol (PVA) – Polyethylene glycol (PEG) graft copolymer (INS 1209), for dietary supplements, except those intended for infants and young children, for solid dietary supplements only, for use in tablets, capsules or tablets, except chewable food supplements; as a film for coating or glazing, with a limit of 10g/100g (10%).”

Brazil – Amends Normative Instruction No. 211, dated 1, 2023, which establishes the technological functions, maximum limits and conditions of use of food additives and technology aids authorized for use in foods

The National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA in Portuguese) published Public Consultation No. 1,198 amending Normative Instruction No. 211, dated 1° 2023, which establishes the technological functions, maximum limits and conditions of use of food additives and technology aids authorized for use in food.

Peru – Proposed changes and/or additions to Section 3 of the Codex Guideline: “CXG 36-1989 – Class Names and International Numbering International Numbering System for Food Additives”

Paraguay – Public consultation. Draft Amendments to GMC Resolutions Nº 53/98, 54/98, 07/06 and 08/06 on food additives

The National Institute of Food and Nutrition (INAN in Spanish) published for public consultation the Draft Amendments to GMC Resolutions No. 53/98, 54/98, 07/06 and 08/06 on food additives. Inclusion of beta-carotene from Blakeslea trispora, INS 160a(iii), with coloring function in different food categories.

Brazil – ANVISA amends Normative Instruction – IN N° 211/2023, on technological functions, maximum limits and conditions of use of food additives and technological adjuvants authorized for use in food

The National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA in Portuguese) published Normative Instruction IN N° 223/2023, which amends Normative Instruction – IN N° 211, dated March 1, 2023, establishing the technological functions, maximum limits and conditions of use of food additives and technological adjuvants authorized for use in food.
