By Joint Resolution 2/2023 RESFC-2023-2-APN-SCS#MS the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries and the Secretariat of Quality in Health publishes the amendment of Article 1415 of the Argentine Food Code, which will be worded as follows: “Article 1415: Health Authorities and Food Companies shall apply the provisions set forth in the “Procedure for the Management of Incidents and Recall of Products.”

Brazil – Creation of the Interministerial Chamber of Food and Nutritional Security
Decree Decree No. 11422 created the Interministerial Chamber of Food and Nutritional Security as part of the National Food and Nutritional Security System – SISAN, created by Law No. 11,346 of September 15, 2006. Article 2 establishes that the Inter-Ministerial Chamber of Food and Nutritional Security is a collegiate body, of a permanent nature, of intersectoral articulation and integration of the organs and entities of the federal public administration related to the areas of food and nutritional sovereignty and security, food systems and the fight against hunger.
Chile – Update of the “Feeding guide for children under 2 years of age. Feeding guide until adolescence”
Taking into account the need to update knowledge on infant feeding, is that the Ministry of Health (MINSAL) directed an update of the document entitled: “GUIDE TO FOOD FOR CHILDREN UNDER 2 YEARS OF AGE EATING GUIDE TO ADOLESCENCE.”, developed in 2014, and last edition in 2016.
This new text will address those factors that health professionals should take into account in the individual care and guidance of children and their families, and provides general recommendations, based on the available scientific evidence and expert recommendations, focusing on the normal feeding that a healthy full-term child should receive.
Chile – Consultation on microbiological criteria for treenuts
The following proposed amendment to the Food Sanitary Regulations (articles 169, 173 and 452) aims to establish microbiological criteria for tree nuts, which are defined under the new table 14.10 of article 173. This clarifies the scope of application of what is indicated in several articles in which reference is made to dried fruits, nuts or others that in the current regulation are used indistinctly to speak of dried or dehydrated fruits, candied dried fruits and tree nuts and peanuts, which leads to confusion.
On the other hand, microbiological criteria are established for tea, mate and herbal infusions, and the nomenclature for the definition of tea species is modified.
Colombia – First payment of tax on ultra-prepared foods in 2024
The first deadline for manufacturers of ice cream, soft drinks, sausages and other foods that exceed certain levels of fat, sugar or sodium, to pay the new tax on ultra-premium foods, will expire between January 10 and 23, 2024, according to the new tax calendar of the Dian.
The tax on these products starts at the end of the year with a rate of 10% in the case of ultra-premium products and in the case of beverages we are talking about at least 180 pesos per liter.
