The Americas – Chile: Ministry of Health publishes draft amendment on sodium ulphate levels in salt

The Ministry of Health published a draft amendment to the Food Sanitary Regulations (RSA in Spanish) on the levels of sodium sulfate above 1.5% established in Article 439 of the RSA. For this reason, the standards that Codex Alimentarius has developed in relation to sodium chloride and its natural contaminants were reviewed, where up to 3% of natural contaminants, including sodium sulfate, are accepted.

Around the World – Portugal: Changes in salt labeling may jeopardize domestic productio

The PAN Parliamentary Group – People-Animals-Nature has submitted an initiative to the Ministry of Environment and Climate Action in order to inquire the position of the Portuguese Government regarding the assessment and possible vote on the file concerning the proposed Regulation (EU) 2018/848, approving the rules on organic production and labeling of organic products, by the European Commission, scheduled for this week.

The Americas – Argentina: Amendment to the Argentine Food Code on the quality requirements for table salt

By means of Joint Resolution 32/2021, amendments to the Codiga Alimentario Angentino (CAA in Spanish) on the requirements for table salt are incorporated through the modification of articles:

  • 1265: Process of elaboration and quality parameters.
  • 1266: Denomination according to granulometry.
  • 1272: Iodine content and permitted food additives.

Salt intended for industrial use, food or otherwise, is excluded from the above obligation and in such cases the legend “Industrial use” must be entered.

  • 1275: Use of packaging and labeling.
