Ecuador – INEN publishes several draft standards on alcoholic beverages and dairy products

The Ecuadorian Standardization Service (INEN in Spanish) has published a series of draft standards for public consultation related to alcoholic beverages and dairy products.

  • NTE INEN 2802 Amendment 1
    ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES – COCKTAILS OR MIXED ALCOHOLIC DRINKS AND APERITIFS – REQUIREMENTS.
  • NTE INEN 1837 Amendment 1
    ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES – LIQUEURS – REQUIREMENTS.
  • NTE INEN 298
    Powdered milk and powdered cream – Requirements.
    This standard establishes the requirements for milk powder, modified milk powder, and cream powder.
    Powder intended for direct consumption or further processing.
  • NTE INEN 704
    CONDENSED MILK – REQUIREMENTS
    This standard establishes the requirements for condensed milk intended for human consumption.

Ecuador – New draft standards on complementary infant formulae and fermented milks

The National Standardization Service (INEN in Spanish) has published for public consultation 2 draft standards related to complementary infant formula and fermented milks.

  • NTE INEN-CODEX CXS 156. Standard for supplementary formulae for older infants and products for young children (CXS 156-1987, IDT)

This section of the standard applies to supplementary formulae for older infants defined in Section 2.1, in liquid or powder form.

1.2 This section of the standard contains compositional, quality, safety,labeling, analytical and sampling requirements for complementary formulae for older infants.

1.3 Onlyproducts that meet the criteria established in the provisions of this section of this standard shall be presented as complementary formulae for older infants.

  • NTE INEN 2395. Fermented milks. Requirements

This standard establishes the requirements for fermented milks. This standard is applicable to fermented milks such as: yogurt, yogurt from alternative cultures, acidophilus milk, kefir, kumys, concentrated fermented milk, flavored fermented milks and fermented milk drinks.

Trinidad and Tobago – CARICOM has published 2 voluntary draft Standards for cocoa beans

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Regional Organization for Standards and Quality has issued two (2) voluntary draft CARICOM Regional Standards for public comment:

  • DCRS 82:202X, Cocoa bean quality – Sampling requirements
  • DCRS 83:202X, Cocoa bean quality – Specifications

Bolivia – IBNORCA publishes new draft food-related standards

The Bolivian Institute for Standardization and Quality (IBNORCA in Spanish) has published the following draft standards:

  • APNB 33009. Dairy products – Fresh cheese – Requirements (First revision) (Annuls and replaces NB 33009:2003).
  • APNB 38049. Sugar – Determination of insoluble matter (sediment) in white sugar by membrane filtration.
  • APNB 39010-1. Flours of vegetable origin – Manual test method for the determination of dry and wet gluten content.
  • APNB 39010-2. Flours of vegetable origin – Mechanical test method for the determination of dry and wet gluten content.

The deadline for comments is the 2nd and 3rd week of September.

Ecuador – INEN publishes draft adoption of standards related to canned canned fish and international trade of foodstuffs

The Ecuadorian Standardization Service (INEN in Spanish) has published the following draft standards:

  1. NTE INEN 3213 – STANDARD FOR CANNED FISH (CXS 119- 1981, MOD).

This standard applies to canned fish packed in water, oil or other appropriate medium.
It does not apply to specialty products in which fish represents less than 50% by mass of the net contents of the container.
This standard does not apply to canned tuna and bonito of NTE INEN 184 and canned sardines of NTE INEN 185.

2. CPE INEN-CODEXCXG 83-PRINCIPLES FOR THE USE OF SAMPLING AND ANALYSIS IN INTERNATIONAL FOOD TRADE (CODEX CXG 83:2015, IDT)

The code of practice CXG 83:2015, Principles for the use of sampling and analysis in international food trade, has been approved as a national standard with reference number CPE INEN-CXG 83 Principles for the use of sampling and analysis in international food trade (CODEX CXG 83:2015, IDT).
