Brazil – Modification of regulations on cellulosic materials, packaging and equipment intended to come into contact with foodstuffs

The National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA in Portuguese) has published Resolution No 979/ 2025, which amends Resolution of the Collegiate Council – RDC No 88 of June 29, 2016, approving the technical regulation on cellulosic materials, packaging and equipment intended to come into contact with food and containing other provisions.

This Resolution incorporates Resolution GMC/MERCOSUR No. 2 of 24 April 2025 into the national legal system.

Art. 2.º Point 1.2 of Part II of the Annex of the Resolution of the Collegiate Board – DRC No. 88, of June 29, 2016, shall enter into force with the following modification:

f) The diisopropylnaphthalene content in the finished product that uses recycled fibers in its production shall be the lowest possible from the technical point of view.

Brazil – ANVISA publishes modification to the regulation of plastic packaging and equipment in contact with food

The National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA in Portuguese) publishes the Resolution of the Collegiate Council RDC ANVISA No 961/2025 which modifies the Resolution of the Collegiate Council – RDC No 56/2012, which provides the positive list of monomers, other starting substances and polymers authorized for the production of plastic containers and equipment in contact with food.

Uruguay – Public Consultation MERCOSUR Technical Regulation on Food Grade Recycled Postconsumer Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) Packaging (Food Grade PET-PCR) intended to be in Contact with Food

The Agency for Electronic Administration and the Information and Knowledge Society has published for public consultation the “MERCOSUR Technical Regulation on Food Grade Recycled Postconsumer Food Grade Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) Containers (Food Grade PET-PCR) intended to be in Contact with Food”.
The document submitted for public consultation regulates the use of food-grade recycled post-consumer PET containers (food-grade PET-PCR) intended to be in contact with food, based on studies that support new post-consumer PET recycling technologies.

Uruguay – Public Consultation on the MERCOSUR Technical Regulation on monomers, other starting substances and polymers for the production of plastic containers and equipment in contact with food

Draft Resolution No. 10/23 seeks to update the positive list of monomers, other starting substances and polymers authorized for the manufacture of plastic containers and equipment in contact with food, by amending Resolution GMC No. 02/12.

The document put out for public consultation was prepared within the scope of the Food Commission (CA) of GTS No. 3 and aims to include, at the end of the positive list of Part I of the Annex to Resolution GMC No. 02/12, the substance Tetramethyl bisphenol F Diglycyl ether (TMBPF-DGE) and to include, in the “List of authorized polymers” of Part V of the Annex to Resolution GMC No. 02/12, the substance Polyamide-imide 2 (PAI-2), with the restrictions and specifications determined. For the preparation of the above-mentioned MERCOSUR Technical Regulation, Resolution GMC No. 03/92 on “General criteria for food packaging and equipment in contact with food” and Resolution GMC No. 02/12, which approved the “MERCOSUR Technical Regulation on food packaging and equipment in contact with food”, were taken into account. which approved the “MERCOSUR Technical Regulation on Positive List of Monomers, other Starting Substances and Polymers authorized for the manufacture of Plastic Containers and Equipment in Contact with Food”.
