Bolivia – IBONORCA published draft technical standards on cereals and oils and fats

The Bolivian Institute for Standardization and Quality (IBONORCA in Spanish) has published for consultation several draft Bolivian technical standards (NB) on cereals and oils and fats.

Draft standards on fats and oils

  • Oils and fats – Determination of Willey melting point (Cancels and replaces NB 34027).
  • Oils and fats – Determination of color (Cancels and replaces NB 34024:2004).
  • Oils and fats – Determination of cold test.
  • Oils and fats – Determination of phosphorus (Cancels and replaces NB 34022:2007).
  • Oils and fats – Determination of soap content (Cancels and replaces NB 34020:2004).
  • Oils and fats – Definitions and classification (Cancels and replaces NB 34011:2006).

Article – Front-of-pack food labeling as opposed to trademark law

The new Law for the Promotion of Healthy Eating (Law 27.642) enacted in Argentina contains provisions that imply a direct restriction on the exercise of the right to use duly registered trademarks, mainly based on the protection of consumer health. This question generates a clear tension between these rights, whose analysis is very useful in order to provide clarity to the panorama resulting from the enactment of the Law, a panorama that has great implications for the commercial activity carried out in our country by companies associated with the food industry. The present work will analyze the regulatory conflict raised and will seek to answer how it should be resolved according to the current laws, doctrine and jurisprudence in Argentina and in the international framework.

Paraguay – Draft Resolution Requirements and sanitary conditions for the commercialization of poultry meat products

The National Institute of Food and Nutrition (INAN in Spanish) has published the Draft Resolution of the Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare on the requirements and sanitary conditions for the commercialization of meat products of poultry origin.

Paraguay – INAN confirms food and raw material import requirements are in force

The National Institute of Food and Nutrition (INAN in Spanish) communicates that Resolution S.G. No. 336/2020 is still in force. “Whereby requirements and conditions are established for the registration of food ingredients and raw materials to be imported directly by food industries for their own use”.
The application for registration of food ingredients and raw materials is available in the institutional computer system (SIGRA in Spanish).

Argentina – Updated fees for procedures related to food and supplements

The National Administration of Medicines, Food and Medical Technology (ANMAT in Spanish), by means of Disposition 25/2024, updated the amounts of the fees that will accrue for procedures related to food products, dietary supplements, food for specific medical purposes, establishments, packaging, import/export, laboratory analysis, authentications and federal network of laboratories.
