Argentina – CONAL addresses update of the Food Code at its 154th ordinary meeting on tea, enzymes and farinaceous foods

During the meeting (154th) the Commission agreed on and submitted 5 files for administrative processing related to various proposals to amend the Argentine Food Code (AAC), such as the characterization of flavored tea, the inclusion of enzymes, the updating of articles on farinaceous foods, the inclusion of capers and the updating of the articles on peanuts and derivatives, proposals worked on by the National Food Institute (INAL in Spanish).

During the meeting, several topics were discussed, such as the progress on the proposal submitted by INAL to amend articles 235 and 1381 on food labeling in general and dietary supplements to incorporate Health claims (DPS in Spanish) for use in labeling. Likewise, it was agreed to refer the projects for the incorporation of arropes, hydroelectrolyte supplements, additives, edible flowers and the Butia palm tree to the Public Consultation stage.

Chile – Amendment to the Food Sanitary Regulation on pasteurization and fortification of milk and wheat flour

Amendment to the Food Sanitary Regulation on pasteurization and fortification of milk and wheat flour is published.

The Ministry of Health published Decree No. 29, with a series of amendments to the Food Sanitary Regulations related to:

  • Pasteurization of liquid milk.
  • Fortification with vitamin D. Liquid/fluid milk: a single dose of 1 µg/100 ml, which may be exceeded by up to 40%, reaching 1.4 µg/100 ml.
  • Quality requirements for milk powders and cream powder
  • Vitamin D fortification of milk powder.
  • Vitamin D fortification of wheat flour.

ARCSA publishes draft amendment on partial sanitary technical regulation for processed foods

The National Agency for Regulation, Control and Sanitary Surveillance (ARCSA in Spanish) has published a draft Partial Amendment to RESOLUTION-ARCSA-DE-2022-016-AKRG on partial sanitary technical regulations for processed foods, processing plants, distribution, commercialization and transportation establishments of processed foods and collective food.
Incorporated in the draft amendment:

  • New definitions (dairy chain, heavy metals, etcs.).
  • Processed foods such as milk, milk derivatives and dairy by-products.
  • Sanitary Notification Certificate or GMP Certificate.

Ecuador – ARCSA publishes draft External Instructions on Simplified Process for Obtaining the Sanitary Notification Certificate for Processed Foods in Coordinations

ARCSA publishes draft External Instructions on the Simplified Process for Obtaining the Sanitary Notification Certificate for processed foods in Coordination Centers.
The objective of the instructions is to describe to external users, the guidelines for the process of obtaining the simplified sanitary notification of processed foods, providing personalized technical assistance through the Zonal Coordination Offices of ARCSA; so that entrepreneurs can boost the development of their economy, positioning their products in the main markets nationwide, and regularize the process of surveillance and subsequent sanitary control.

Chile – Public Consultation Project for the modification of the Food Health Regulations to include mandatory messages on sweeteners

The Ministry of Health has published a Public Consultation Project for the modification of the Sanitary Regulation of Foods to include a mandatory message on the label of those products that contain sweeteners, a legend “CONTAINS SWEETENERS. AVOID CONSUMPTION BY CHILDREN”.

Art 120 ter:
Food products that contain among their ingredients sweeteners regulated in article 146 of this regulation, either directly or through other ingredients that contain them, must label on the front of their packaging the following legend: “CONTAINS SWEETENERS. AVOID CONSUMPTION BY CHILDREN”
