Brazil – Brazilian government engages in dialog with civil society about the participation of non-profit private entities in the National Food and Nutritional Security System

Representatives of the Brazilian government and civil society analyzed possible ways for non-profit organizations to join the National Food and Nutrition Security System (SISAN in Portuguese). The objective is to expand collaboration among the parties at the federal, state, and municipal levels to strengthen food and nutritional security programs and policies (SAN in Portuguese).

The Organic Law on Food and Nutritional Security (Law 11.346/2006), known as Losan, recognizes that non-profit entities can play an important role in ensuring the human right to adequate food.
