Argentina – Authorized new genetically modified corn

The Ministry of Economy, Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries has published Resolution No. 80/2026, which approves a new transgenic crop: it is a new variety of corn, developed by Corteva under the designation COR-ØØ121-4, which offers protection against certain lepidopteran insects considered pests. With the signature of Secretary Sergio Iraeta, and after receiving the approval of the National Advisory Commission on Agricultural Biotechnology (CONABIA en Spanish), which concluded that this corn “does not present new risks or increased risks compared to the cultivation of other corns, so its release into the agroecosystem is as safe as that of any commercial corn,” the company will be able to proceed with its “commercialization for all types of use.”

The firm CORTEVA SEEDS ARGENTINA S.R.L. must immediately provide the competent authority with any new scientific-technical information that arises about the corn containing the accumulation of events whose commercialization is authorized by this measure, which could affect or invalidate the scientific conclusions on which the opinions that serve as a precedent for this authorization are based.
