From December 3 to 5, at the Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Santiago, Chile, the kick-off workshop for the project “Improving food safety risk analysis capacity in Latin America through a South-South cooperation approach to facilitate regional trade” was held within the framework of the Food Safety Risk Analysis Network (FSRisk), which was attended by representatives of the health and agriculture agencies responsible for food safety and security in 11 countries of the region: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Honduras and Nicaragua.
The main objective of the project is to strengthen the implementation of the risk analysis framework in food safety decision-making, covering risk management, assessment and communication. To this end, the project will focus on improving the capacities of national food safety authorities in the region to make decisions based on scientific evidence.
The National Food Institute of ANMAT was designated as the national focal point for the implementation of the project in the country.
