The Federal Consumer Prosecutor’s Office (PROFECO in Spanish) released a comprehensive analysis of juices and flavored beverages aimed at children, revealing high sugar levels, health risks, and misleading labeling in certain products. According to the “Quality Study” published in the Consumer Magazine (Issue 578/2025), 51 products were assessed, covering categories such as juices, fruit drinks, fruit-flavored beverages, and soy and fruit drinks. This evaluation provided specific insights into their nutritional content, labeling, and composition.

Brazil – ANVISA bans dietary supplements containing ora-pro-nobis
The National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA in Portuguese) announces a ban on all food supplements containing ora-pro-nobis. The measure was adopted because the plant (pereskia aculeata) is not authorized as a food supplement ingredient.
The measure does not affect the consumption or sale of the fresh plant. Ora-pro-nóbis is a plant that has a tradition of being used in everyday food, especially in the states of Goiás and Minas Gerais.
Brazil – ANVISA amends food additive regulations
The National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA in Portuguese) has published Normative Instruction IN No. 356/2025, which amends Normative Instruction – IN 211/2023 on the technological functions, maximum limits and conditions of use of food additives and processing aids authorized for use in food.
