Mexico – Profeco publishes study on compliance with labeling regulations for several brands of non-alcoholic beers

The Federal Consumer Protection Agency (PROFECO in Spanish) published a new analysis of products, in this case focused on non-alcoholic beers, and found that some of them do not comply with the measures established by the country’s law, so they must be withdrawn from the Mexican market.

Although this new Quality Study will be published in the September Consumer Magazine, its owner, David Aguilar Romero, gave a preview of what they found after studying 19 beverages, 12 of which are considered zero alcohol beers.

Nicaragua – New requirements for legal representatives of national and foreign food manufacturing establishments and food owners

The General Directorate of the National Authority of Sanitary Regulation has issued the communication ANRS-DG-MLRG-0015-08-24 which states the university degrees authorized to carry out the procedures related to new registrations, renewal, modifications and mutual recognition of food and beverages before the competent authority.

1. As of September 1, 2024, Agro-Industrial Engineers (Food Engineer, Industrial Engineer, Chemical Engineer, Food Agroindustry Engineer, Food Technology Graduate) who apply for a powers evaluation must attach a simple copy of the degree issued by the University to the procedure.

2. Only those with a Chemical-Pharmacy degree and a Pharmacy degree may apply for new registration procedures, renewal, modifications and mutual recognition of food and beverages.

3. Only those with a Food Engineer, Industrial Engineer, Chemical Engineer, Food Agroindustry Engineer and Food Technology Graduates may apply for new registration procedures, renewal, modifications and mutual recognition of food and beverages.

Nicaragua – New technical standard on Yogurt

 
The Food Directorate of the National Health Regulatory Authority has published NTON 03 073 – 06 Nicaraguan Mandatory Technical Standard for sweetened, natural, flavored and fruit yogurt (yogurt, yoghurt). This standard applies to processors, importers and distributors that manufacture and/or commercialize sweetened, natural, flavored and fruity yogurt.

Natural or plain yogurt. Means the coagulated milk product obtained by lactic fermentation by the action of Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus from milk and milk products as listed in section 4.1.2 and with or without the optional additions listed in section 4.1.4.

Nicaragua – New standard on sanitary and safety requirements for food storage

The Food Directorate of the National Health Regulatory Authority has published NTON 03002. Food. Food storage. Sanitary and safety requirements. This standard applies to food stores, regardless of their location and the origin of food, raw materials and food additives.

Paraguay – INAN announces the Draft Resolution Modification of Resolutions GMC 09/96 and 63/18 Food Additives

The National Institute of Food and Nutrition (INAN in Spanish) has announced the public consultation of the Draft Resolution of the Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare, MODIFICATION OF GMC RESOLUTIONS No. 09/06 AND 63/18 ON FOOD ADDITIVES.
