SENCAMER publishes draft adoption of technical standards on meat products and sugar sampling methods

The Decentralized Service for Standardization, Quality, Metrology and Technical Regulations (SENCAMER in Spanish) has published a series of draft technical standards for adoption on meat products and sampling methods for sugar.. The draft standards are as follows:

Argentina – Front-of-Food Labeling

The Ministry of Economy, Industry and Commerce, through the Argentine School of Consumer Education, has published a material on Front Food Labeling. The purpose of this training content is to provide consumers with the necessary tools to make a conscious choice when purchasing food and/or food products within the framework of consumer rights and healthy eating.

Panama – Ministry of Commerce and Industries co-chairs development of international guidelines to combat food fraud

At a recent meeting, Panama took a leading role in the international arena by co-chairing the development of the Guidelines on the Prevention and Control of Food Fraud within the framework of the Codex Alimentarius. This effort was carried out in collaboration with China, the European Union and the United Kingdom, under the chairmanship of the United States.

Work on this document will be led by the Codex Contact Point of Panama’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MICI), which leads important initiatives in the food standards sector at the national, regional and international levels. This document, prepared within the Codex Committee on Food Import and Export Inspection and Certification Systems (CCFICS), establishes guidelines and procedures to prevent and control food fraud, marking a significant advance in the protection of food safety and quality at the global level, according to Joseph Gallardo, MICI food engineer.

Brazil – ANVISA publishes new version of Q&A manual on food additives and aids technology

In this 6th edition, question 4 on additives regularization was adapted considering the publication of DRC No 843/2024 and IN No 281/2024. Question 17 has been updated with the inclusion of the recent food additive regulations published in Mercosur.
Question 19 was included providing clarification on harmonization in Mercosur in relation to technological aids. Question 24 was reworded to specify the chapter containing the approval of the use of ozone in the treatment of drinking water. Questions 26 and 27 were included to clarify the application of the carry-over principle in the case of flavorings and in the case of additives allowed in fruit preparations added to fermented milks. Duplicate information in the Table
in question 31 were deleted and guidance on the labeling of other additives was included. The answer to question 38 has been reworded to clarify that the limit is applicable for the coloring ingredient that has identity and purity specifications, not for the ingredient added to diluents/vehicles.

Brazil – ANVISA holds 17th Ordinary Public Meeting of the Board of Directors, which included the topic of food supplements

The National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA in Portuguese) held the 17th Ordinary Public Meeting of the Collegiate Board of Directors, which included the review on the update of lists of constituents, limits of use, declarations and supplementary labeling of food supplements.
