Honduras – Draft Regulations of the Law for the Control and Regulation of Energy Drinks published

The Secretariat of Economic Development (SDE in Spanish) has published the draft Regulations of the Law for the Control and Regulation of Energy Drinks. This regulation aims to establish regulations for the sale and marketing of energy drinks and/or products, considering characteristics and specifications, in order to protect persons under eighteen (18) years of age. The Regulation is of general interest and of mandatory observance in the national territory and extends to all natural or legal persons engaged in any activity included in the supply chain, which includes: elaboration, handling, manufacturing, processing, packaging, storage, transportation, commercialization, sale, distribution, sale, importation; in addition to the promotion and advertising of beverages and/or energizing products with their characteristics and specifications.

Brazil – MAPA reviews analytical parameters of fruit juice and pulp.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA in Portuguese) has published Ordinance SDA/MAPA No. 1,173, by which it submits to Public Consultation the draft Ordinance that modifies Annex I of Normative Instruction No. 37, of October 1, 2018, which establishes the analytical parameters of fruit juice and pulp.

Brazil – MAPA Approves the Technical Regulation on Identity and Quality of Dairy Compounds Intended for Human Consumption

Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA in Portuguese) published Ordinance SDA/MAPA No. 1,170 approving the Technical Regulation on the Identity and Quality of Dairy Products intended for human consumption. For the purposes of this Ordinance, a dairy compound is understood as a dairy product or powdered compound dairy product, obtained from milk or dairy derivatives, or both, with or without the addition of non-dairy ingredients.

Brazil – Anvisa to hold industry meetings on sweeteners and titanium dioxide additives

National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA in Portuguese) will hold sectorial meetings on sweeteners and titanium dioxide.
The meetings will be held on September 27. Anyone interested can participate.

Sweeteners
The objective is to contextualize the current regulatory status of sweeteners and existing challenges to improve their sanitary control; obtain input from affected actors to assist in the planning and implementation of the topic; and present the planning of next steps to address the issue under Anvisa’s Regulatory Agenda 2024/2025 topic 3.16.

Titanium Dioxide
The objective is to present and discuss the conclusions reached on the safety of this additive and the actions to be taken on the outcome of these conclusions.

Argentina – The fruit of the “yatay” palm was incorporated into the Argentine Food Code

As a result of the efforts of the Instituto de Control de la Alimentación y Bromatología (ICAB in Spanish), which reports to the Ministry of Economic Development of the province, the National Food Commission (CONAL in Spanish) approved the incorporation of the yatay palm fruit into the Argentine Food Code.
